CHEAT CODE STUDY GUIDE
Do you ever wish that life came with directions? Or a step-by-step plan for which decisions to make?
I was driving with a friend recently and we had a conversation about the convenience of GPS. We can just plug in any address and it tells us exactly where to go! Not only that, but the application will take into account traffic patterns, construction, detours, accidents, and even sometimes the weather, letting us know which route will get us there the fastest. And if we aren’t interested in the fastest route, it gives us options for avoiding toll roads or highways, depending on what we need or how we prefer to travel. You can even add a stop along the way if you know there’s a specific spot you want to stop for lunch or you need to pick up another passenger along the way.
I confessed that I sometimes even use this feature in my car when I am well acquainted with the path to my destination, because there have been times that something was happening on the way home that I was unaware of, and the GPS guided me on a different way than the one I usually take to help save me time and hassle!
As we talked about how much we enjoy using GPS, we joked that we could hardly remember what life was like before we were able to use it.
You mean to tell me that people printed out directions on MapQuest or bought an atlas or map at the gas station, or even just…followed signs?
It’s unbelievable how far technology has come, and we’re very grateful for how it has helped us on our road trips.
The benefits of GPS can be applied to our lives as well if we allow God to take control.
There are so many times when I think I know the way or I want to take the most familiar route.
But what if there was something to help guide me and direct me in ways that I can’t guide myself?
What if there are “cheat codes” or shortcuts that can help save me time or help me avoid hazards in the road?
I am so glad to have both the Word and the Spirit to serve as sources of discernment in my journey of life.
When I forget the way, the Word can remind me of my destination.
When I surrender to the Holy Spirit, I can be made aware of a different perspective as I choose which path to take.
And when I’m thoroughly lost, I can ask for wisdom and guidance to get me back on track.
