Day 10

The Way Through Greed

Money and finances can cause so much worry and stress in our lives. There are significant correlations between debt or financial difficulty and mental health problems. So many aspects of our lives are dependent on money, and our instincts tell us to save and keep as many resources as possible to avoid financial hardship... But Jesus consistently teaches a different way to live.

The Bible contains over 2,300 verses about wealth and possessions, and over a quarter of Jesus’ parables are about money! Jesus knew that our fears about finances are actually a “heart” issue—it’s impossible to serve both God and money. Jesus taught so frequently about this because He understood that to worry about money means we are not trusting in God. God wants us to live free from the stronghold of greed; He knows that if we surrender and cultivate a heart of generosity, we will have a closer relationship with Him while also advancing His kingdom.

Bible Reading for the Day:

Luke 12:15-21; Acts 20:32-35

Think and Act:

1. How have your past experiences with money shaped the way you view finances?

2. Are there any resources or possessions you are reluctant to surrender to God? What is one way you can combat greed with generosity today?
