The Way Through Insecurity
When we think of pride, it’s easy to primarily focus on the negative connotations of the word: superiority, self-importance, or even disdain for others. But there is a second way that the word “pride” can be used in our language: a feeling of contentment, achievement, dignity, and self-respect. I like to think of this type of “proud” as someone who just received recognition for hard work that they put into a project, and this acknowledgment allows them to walk a little bit taller with a new confidence in their capabilities!
Maybe you have a tendency to think little of yourself (sometimes our lack of self-esteem and our insecurities can keep us from ever seeing ourselves with any kind of contentment or respect). Maybe you struggle to see your own self-worth and have a hard time celebrating the talents that you’ve been given. And while we never want to be boastful (because we recognize that our skills are a gift from God), I believe that God invites us to “walk tall” with dignity and confidence, knowing that our true identity is in Him. When we feel incapable, insecure, timid, or unworthy, let us remember that God is always with us no matter what we face—and we can be confident, trusting that He has equipped us and created us for His purposes!

Bible Reading for the Day:
Think and Act:
1. In what areas do you struggle to celebrate and “walk tall” in your character traits or gifts? Where do you feel insecure?
2. Where do you need to trust in God and believe that He has given you everything you need to face the situation with confidence? What one step can you take today to walk in the confidence of God?
