The Way Through Fear
“There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear...” 1 John 4:18
Fear is the painful emotion that immediately takes control of our thoughts when we are harmed emotionally and physically. Fear carries on in our lives when we live without Christ; however, the moment we come under His loving wings, fear is cast out.
A couple of verses before 1 John 4:18, the apostle John declared that love is what God is. Love shows itself as “goodwill,” and goodwill never harms or does evil to anyone. We have every reason to be afraid because this world is full of darkness, making fear inevitable. But to know that love is of God, we can enter His powerful presence, which casts out fear.
God’s love prompts Him to desire and ensures everlasting grace, love, joy, and protection. His love assures us that we are forever His. We see this in the story of Christ’s death and resurrection because, on the cross, God reveals Himself as a being of total self-giving love. When you realize that God loves you and is crazy about you no matter your past, that love will become the thing that grounds your entire life. This love should compel us to love others in the same way because His love has victory over the world. Now the question is...will you let His perfect love rule in your life and take all your fears away?
