The Way Through Physical Temptation

Physical temptation is the temptation to allow our bodies to be in control. And if our bodies are in control, that means our physicality would have total power to make decisions that could affect other areas and priorities in our life. “Physical” means everything from what we eat (and how much) to the extremes of sexuality. Our bodies have the power to do a lot of great things...but also cause a lot of damage.

Imagine the full capabilities of a Boeing 747 Jet. It has the power to physically transport people anywhere in the world. It has the power to build a billion dollar travel industry. Horrifically, without a pilot, a Boeing 747 Jet has the power to destroy all of its powerful potential...including the lives it transports.

There has to be a pilot flying (controlling) the physical power of what our bodies could do, including their impulses, needs, and desires. Self-control has to fly the plane of our physical potential; otherwise, our bodies have the power to destroy our lives and the lives of others.

Proverbs 25:27-28 describes the necessity of self-control by imploring that “It is not good to eat too much honey, nor is it honorable to search out matters that are too deep. Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control.”

Self-control is the evidence of a follower of Christ; we’re Spirit led...not “fed”led, “bed”led, or “losing our head” led.
